You've probably seen either my facebook post or my previous post on the blog but if you haven't, Jeremy and I are expecting!
I’ve had a lot of time to think about what I would write once we found out we were finally pregnant and I’ve debated over how I wanted to write the first part of this post. Eighteen months may not seem like a long time to some people but when you decide you’re ready to start a family and everyone else around you is starting theirs, it feels like an eternity. After months of taking my temperature, peeing on sticks and checking my spit and whatever else I was doing, the best part of this whole time was the day I was finally able to tell Jeremy that we were having a baby!
In early February I had this strange feeling that maybe this was the month we would find out we were pregnant and low and behold, it was! We had our trip planned to go to the Dells and based on the timing, I just didn't have the patience to wait to test until we got back! I took a test Saturday morning but the line was so faint that I figured I was seeing things and I kept my mouth shut. I took another on Sunday which also showed a faint line so I still didn’t tell Jeremy. Finally on Monday (while in the Dells) I took another test, and although still not dark, it was definitely visible! I couldn’t keep my silence anymore and I surprised Jeremy with a positive pregnancy test and two onsies. It was my turn to pop the question which was, “Which one do you think we’ll need?” It was by far the best vacation! We were able to enjoy the whole time together basking in the fact that we were going to have a baby!

After the Dells we couldn't wait for my first appointment! I had an ultrasound done at about 6 1/2 weeks and found out there was only one baby growing in my belly and we were able to hear the heartbeat! It was an amazing moment and I was so glad Jeremy could be there to see it as well. It seemed so surreal to see our little baby growing! Here are a couple of the ultrasound pictures. The first one shows Baby C and the second one is the heartbeat 116 BPM!
After the ultrasound we decided we were ready to tell the soon-to-be grandparents! We wanted to tell them all in person but with my dad working in North Carolina right now, that wasn't an option. I tried to be creative with how we told each one so since my dad is always working all over the country on different pipelines, I told him by simply asking where he would be working in October. His response was I'm not sure yet which was followed by well I hope it's close because you're going to be a grandpa that month! He was shocked andI so wish I could have seen the expression on his face but it was great nonetheless.
That weekend my Mom, Eric, Matthew, Sarah and the pups had already planned to come visit. They made it to town on Friday night, Jeremy and I made dinner and it was so hard to not spill the beans! Once we finally finished dinner and went downstairs we were able to tell them, but not before Jeremy got the video camera ready on my phone. We knew my mom's reaction would be worth catching on tape and we weren't wrong!
Jeremy is the artistic one so he helped me make a onesie that said "If you think I'm cute you should see my Uncle." We put it in a box and once everyone was sitting on the couch we had Matthew open it. He knew what it was right away but it took everyone a couple of looks to figure it out! (I forgot to take pictures before they left so my mom had to take these for me once they got home.)
The filming of the video isn't great being it was on my phone and Jeremy was trying to be discreet, but you get to see my mom's reaction and that's what counts!
Jeremy's parents were in Mexico the weekend we told my family and they weren't getting back until the following Saturday so instead of waiting two weeks, we decided to surprise them when they got home from their trip! It was a good thing that there was a surprise birthday party for Tony's mom that night which they stopped at before coming home because I was off by an hour on when they were supposed to get home and we wouldn't have gotten there first if they hadn't stopped! Even though we got there first, parked around the block and were sitting in the house waiting, Jeremy ended up taking Callie outside and they were pulling up the street just as he was bringing her in! Whoops! Oh well, either way we had cupcakes sitting on the kitchen table when they walked in with cupcake toppers saying Grandma & Grandpa and the rest had little jungle characters. We also had an Aunt & Uncle one for Jess and Tony but I didn't get a picture of those.
In between telling all the parents and making our announcement, I had my second appointment at 10 1/2 weeks. Not much other than a 4 week check up and the best part was my doc was able to pick up the heartbeat on the doppler. It held strong at 160 BPM! That was the only thing I was hoping for so I was grateful we were able to hear it. My doctor is awesome and told me that I would hear a heartbeat that day one way or another and if he couldn't pick it up on there he told me he would give me a freebie ultrasound! Although it would have been great to see the baby again, I'm glad he was able to pick it up on the doppler.
It was so fun telling all the parents and I loved coming up with creative ways to tell them! Of course I couldn't let the creativeness stop with the parents, I had to come up with the picture we posted on facebook. Up until that point, the onesies were the only baby item I had purchased but once we came up with the idea for the TOMS, I couldn't help but buy a new pair for all of us! I felt like red was the best option since we obviously don't know the gender plus it really popped out between the ash/denim ones.
Jeremy picked the spot where we took the pictures, working in construction, he knows Owatonna a lot better than I do and knows where the good spots are! Here are a few of the other pictures we took while at the park.

On Friday I also made the announcement at work and made some vanilla cupcakes with cream cheese frosting (thanks Alyssa for the recipe) and did pink frosting for half and light blue frosting for the other half. They were super cute and good (from what I was told) but I forgot to take a picture!
It's been so fun announcing our news and I can't wait to see how the pregnancy progresses along with all the fun things we'll learn along the way. So far the most prominent pregnancy symptoms I've had are all day nauseousness, exhaustion, a super sensitive snout, food aversions and being unable to sleep through the night without having to use the bathroom. As uncomfortable as most of the symptoms are, I'd take them any day of the week knowing how long we've wanted this. I won't say I'm not hoping the symptoms will subside soon but I'm trying not to complain. I'm getting bored with eating bland foods and it's so weird to me to be totally turned off by baked goods. I haven't ate any of the treats I've made and I didn't even like my favorite ice cream treat at The Blast! Maybe that's a good thing so I don't gain a ton of weight :) So far all I've needed maternity wise is a Bella Band because my pants don't quite fit comfortably anymore and let me tell you, it's been amazing! I ordered a second one last week because it works so great! The next best thing I've found in pregnancy is popsicles. Although they are sweet, it apparently isn't the same as they've been my go to item when I get a nauseous feeling!
Thanks again to everyone for all their kind words since we've announced our pregnancy and to everyone that has had us in their thoughts and prayers over the past year and a half! Another thank you to those of you who sent cards and got us gifts, Baby C is one lucky kiddo! We are so glad to have all of your in our lives! Here are a couple of gifts we've gotten for Baby C already...I do believe I see an elephant theme starting :)
